CulturaGo creates and distributes short online cultural preparation courses that are country-specific and identities based, meaning that our learners are able to gather the cultural skills necessary to engage in a particular foreign culture that factors in their unique identity.
Accessibility and inclusion are therefore deeply rooted in our educational philosophy and company mission.
We are committed to creating an accessible educational experience for persons with disabilities and have thus built our courses on a learning management system (‘LMS’) that complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and its related State laws. Our LMS does not discriminate against individuals with disabilities, and we continue to improve our course material and learning experience to meet the needs of disabled learners.
Our LMS and course features include:
- A consistent, predictable, and navigable user interface that is accessible via all device types (mobile, desktop, laptop, and tablets) in portrait and landscape orientations.
- The ability for content to be read by screen readers.
- Friendly and accessible to users making use of a keyboard instead of a mouse.
- Distinguishable content based on color contrast and learning asset design.
- Self-paced learning experience ensures that each learner can pace their learning according to their abilities.
- No material flashes more than three times in any one-second period.
- Integration of YouTube embedded videos, which feature closed captions when viewing in YouTube.
- The ability to zoom to a 400%+ ratio of regular screen size.
- Multiple creative assets are included to meet various learning styles, presented understandably, and descriptions of abbreviations or unusual words are included where needed.
In July 2022, CulturaGo released a second iteration of its multiple country-specific culture courses for Korean, Japanese, Italian, UK, and Spanish cultures.
The course modifications aimed at increasing accessibility and inclusion include the following:
- Increased text size.
- Increased contrast for improved clarity of the text.
- Creation and enhancement of existing, diversity equity and inclusion modules.
- Inclusion of a greater number of non-text-based assets, such as video interviews and images.
- Translations and sub-titling of non-English-based interviews.
CulturaGo is currently planning a third iteration of its courses. We are gathering learner and distribution partner feedback and are undergoing an external audit from a WCAG 2.1 AA consultant to present a review via a standardized Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT). Collectively, this information will be used to further enhance the accessibility of CulturaGo’s learning material, as we continually strive to improve in that regard.
