CulturaSkills: A Brand New Intercultural Skills Online Course
Jul 12, 2023CulturaGo's mission is simple: we want to empower people to connect across differences in a deep, meaningful way. We applied this concept to all of our destination-specific online cultural preparation courses. We soon realized that the intercultural tools we were helping our learners develop can effectively support them way beyond their time abroad, especially as they prepare to enter today's progressively globalized job market. That is how CulturaSkills was born.
What is CulturaSkills?
We are proud to introduce CulturaGo's first online course specifically designed to promote career readiness, inter-identity exploration, and enhance cross-cultural experiences.
CulturaSkills is an innovative and interactive resource that supports each learner as they embark on their journey to develop their intercultural and inter-identity competencies, whether they are moving to a new country to study or joining a new and diverse team at work.
Who is it for?
CulturaSkills is designed for individuals who want to connect deeply and meaningfully across cultural differences. It is beneficial for students planning to study in a foreign country, professionals entering a globalized job market, or anyone interested in developing their intercultural skills. The course caters to a wide range of learners and accommodates different learning styles.
CulturaSkills provides everyone with a toolkit of easy-to-implement tips and strategies that you can apply everyday and keep building on throughout your life. The course introduces learners to 6 guiding principles and many activities that sum up the most recent trends in Intercultural Communication Studies in an accessible, concise and practical way.
6 Learning Principles
CulturaSkills is divided into 6 lessons. Each lesson introduces learners to a different Learning Principle and guides you through a different intercultural and inter-identity communication tool to enhance curiosity and awareness, support emotional regulation, and improve perspective-taking, among others. Each Learning Principle works as a compact call to action and learning goal, there to remind and guide learners in their everyday interactions.
At the end of every lesson, we designed an activity to encourage learners to apply the learning principles while interacting with other learners.
CulturaSkills Features
Practice-driven Learning
Each lesson is thoughtfully crafted to address a fundamental question from a variety of viewpoints: How can I enhance my understanding and communication with others? We’ve filled our lessons with practical tips and effective strategies, while our activities and live sessions allow learners to practice each learning principle with one another. Our aim is to encourage learners to cultivate new attitudes and improve their interactions across differences.
Flexible Microlearning
CulturaSkills offers a streamlined learning experience that can be completed in 1.5 hours. We are committed to creating online resources that are concise, highly interactive, and tailored to various learning styles. Each lesson is designed to be bite-sized but impactful, providing engaging interviews and activities. With the freedom to adapt to one’s interests and schedules, learners have the flexibility to choose their next lesson.
Community Integration
We believe that peer-to-peer engagement empowers learners to be in charge of their learning, so we made sure that CulturaSkills is perfectly integrated with the CulturaGo Community platform. This is a space where learners come together, share their experiences, and collaborate through moderated chatrooms, asynchronous activities, and synchronous live sessions.
CulturaSkills Certificate and Career Readiness Rubric
Once learners complete CulturaSkills, they will receive their CulturaSkills Certificate. This certificate recognizes the tools that they have gained through the course. In addition, learners will also receive the CulturaGo Career Readiness Rubric. This resource presents the six guiding principles from the course in a language tailored for the work environment, to assist them in effectively showcasing their career readiness.

Course Creators
Marcello is Culturago’s Head of Education as well as a JEDI specialist holding a PhD in Social Anthropology from SOAS University of London (UK).
As CulturaSkills’ Intercultural Learning Designer, Timothy has lent his extensive experience as Intercultural Communication and JEDI teacher, facilitator and instructional designer developed at University of Michigan and Evergreen State College to crafting the course’s learning outcomes, content and activities.
They are the mind behind CulturaSkills’ innovative practice-driven approach, and they authored the course lessons.
Course Guides
During her undergraduate studies, Ebony participated in an international internship program that opened her eyes to other cultures. Throughout her career, she has spent many years living and working abroad, and her journey has taken her on a life-changing adventure. Reflecting back, she has had many eye-opening moments and realized how much she already knew. Every experience is an opportunity for learning and growth, whether it's navigating a new culture or exploring 'where she's really from.'
Our resident community manager, Stephan, embraces the transformative power of living abroad. Through study abroad programs, internships, and youth projects, he expanded his horizons, exploring identity, community, and belonging. He encourages others to seize the opportunity of extended time abroad for its lasting value.
